Why should I get an EnerGuide Evaluation?
In order to participate in the Canada Greener Homes Grant, an EnerGuide Evaluation is required. Not only will it help you better understand the unusually high energy usage in your home, it will also showcase the best efficiency upgrades for you to shift towards a net-zero building. The evaluation takes approximately 2.5 hours and is subsidized by Natural Resources Canada.
Am I eligible for the Canada Greener Homes Grant?

Grants are available for homeowners’ primary residences across Canada. If any of the following apply to you, you may not be eligible for the federal rebates:

  • If you are a landlord, or if the home is not your primary residence
  • You are a renter and do not own the home.
  • If you have started or completed retrofits without receiving an EnerGuide Evaluation first.
  • If your home was built less than 6 months ago. Please note you can apply once your home is at least 6 months old.
  • If you have not moved into the home yet because you are renovating it, or it is not your primary residence.
What is an EnergGuide Evaluation and what is involved?

The home energy EnerGuide Evaluation is a standardized assessment in which the energy advisor collects energy-related information on the home. The energy advisor measures the size of shape of the home, measures the windows, determines what insulation has been used on the various levels of the home, assesses the space, water heating systems, and completes an airtightness test.

This information is used to build an energy simulation and generate detailed reports tailored to your home’s energy use. During the evaluation, the energy advisor will also discuss potential energy upgrades, available grant and rebate programs, and answer any questions you may have.

Do I need to get an EnerGuide Evaluation before installing upgrades?

Yes, if you want to receive up to $5,600 in grant funding from the Canada Greener Homes program, you must complete a home energy evaluation before beginning the planned upgrades to your home.

Does CoEfficient Building Science install the upgrades?

No, as licensed energy advisors, we are unable to perform the upgrades to your home. We act as third-party independent consultants, providing unbiased advice that is free from commercial interests.
